Fourth Day at the Work Sites - Day 9

Breakfast was prepared today by Katie's family group. We enjoyed some cereal, bagels, and fruit together and afterward, made our lunches. We had a morning devotion provided by Andy's family group on being ourselves. Then we went to the work sites. Some of us were pretty tired and slept on the way to the site.

Once we got there, though, we were on task and working really hard.

We finished painting the porch and applied the second coat to half of the house. We still have the back of the house to paint but we have accomplished a lot since yesterday.

We have placed floor boards in both houses and I am more than positive that with our pace we will have both the kitchen cabinets and most of the floors in place by tomorrow.

We are all working hard and can't wait to see the expressions of the families when they see the end results. The families came and helped us out today. We needed some sand paper and we asked if by any chance they had some since we just needed a little bit. After realizing that they did not have any, they went off and bought it themselves to help us.

It was pretty hot today so we made sure to stay hydrated by drinking water, taking breaks under the shade and even chewing on some ice. We left the work sites and headed back to Heritage UMC to take showers. We were pretty worn out from a hard day's work.

Then we went to the infamous BBQ restaurant called the Shed. It came highly recommended to us from Chuck Rowley and now we know why!

Our hostess named Smiley was a volunteer in the area just like ourselves who moved from Minnesota to Mississippi when she saw the need to help. She told us how doing this work fills her up spiritually and how she got this hostessing job in the evenings to sustain her daily needs. She blessed us and prayed with us, it was quite an experience. The food was amazing!

It is a very famous BBQ establishment it has even been listed on the Travel Channel and Food Networks best BBQ restaurants.

Afterward, we took a bus ride and saw some of the bridges that were destroyed by Katrina that can still be seen today.

Then we returned and had a rehearsal followed by a devotion held by David's family group. We are all pretty tired after a busy day but can't wait until tomorrow when we finish our work on the houses and present it to the families.

Until Tomorrow,
