Day 15 - Society of St. Andrew & Hinton Ave. UMC

On Wednesday morning, we all returned back to Heritage UMC. Some members of the group returned a bit earlier than others and had to find a way to use their time productively...

We placed our luggage in the church and gathered in a classroom where we would be learning about the Society of St. Andrew and the different work that organization does throughout the country. Sarah Ramey gave a synopsis of how the organization started, the different programs that it has and the impact it can have on those that it serves.

We watched a video that gave some statistics about hunger and the amount of food wasted in our country. Then, we divided into 5 groups and were given a scripture passage to ponder and portray through a skit created by the group. After some time on their own, each group presented their skit and asked some questions afterward to make us think about how that scripture relates to different churches, populations, and regions.

The presentation ended and we thanked Sarah for sharing with us. Then we gathered our luggage, packed the bus and headed to lunch. We decided to stop at a mall near Lynchburg to offer the youth a variety of meal options. Since there was some extra time after lunch, everyone was able to browse through the stores in the mall and found some potential purchases.

The time came to head back to the bus and travel to Charlottesville, VA. More adventures on the bus were just waiting to happen!

We arrived at Hinton Ave. UMC and began our daily routines. We were greeted by the pastor and were guided to our respective rooms. Stephen B. took advantage of some time to practice on the organ.

Once we were all settled, we rehearsed in the sanctuary to figure out all of the details and assignments for the concert. We had a great meal in the sanctuary, changed into our concert attire and then prepared for the worship service by having devotions in the chapel. The adult staff discussed their faith objects, explaining how it is relevant to our faith with God.

The time for the concert had come and we were welcomed by a great audience full of alumni and family members.

Voices of Youth is truly a family affair.

We listened to testimonies by Caitlyn and Kelley Lebrecht.

Jenny Burks spoke as an alumni about how Voices of Youth had impacted her and shaped her current career path in nursing.

We enjoyed having all the alumni join us and add to the sound of the group and remind us of how we are all a part of God's family!
